After Porn Ends 3 (2018)

There is a stigma that surrounds sex workers, and it follows them from the time they enter the industry until the time they leave this earth. They often struggle to fully separate themselves from the industry, even years after they have left. Onlookers often believe that having sex as a career is glamorous, empowering and lacking a downside. From the mouths of those who have experienced the world of porn, these understandings are not the reality of the industry. After Porn Ends 3 is the most recent installment of the series and aims to debunk the many misunderstandings of the porn industry. Brittany Andrews directs this installment and attempts to better the understanding of what porn truly entails, and not just what viewers believe it to be.

In After Porn Ends, viewers see, maybe for the first time ever, the toll that pornography can take on those who have participated in it. The depression, the gawkers and the feelings of failure that surround these former pornstars have previously been the center of attention. While the first installment of the series contained important information, it seems to focus on one particular aspect of life after porn, and that is the negative aspect. What is so intriguing about After Porn Ends 3 is the fact that Andrews and the casting crew managed to find a wider range of interviewees. They chose not to focus strictly on the negative repercussions but the positive outcomes associated with porn as well.

Former members of the industry, including Christy Canyon, Tera Patrick, Luc Wylder and Alexandra Silk explain how lavish their lives have been because of the career path that they have chosen. These former porn stars, nude models, philanthropists and entrepreneurs seem to jump at the opportunity to express to the world that while porn can be a difficult career to maintain, it has its perks, and those perks are incredible. They talk about the success that they found in the industry but more so about the fantastic lives that the industry has led them to, expressing, in detail, what life after porn looks like.

There are conflicting testimonies regarding what porn can eventually lead to, however, that juxtaposition of ideas ultimately leads to the viewers finding a new respect for the industry. Like any other profession there are good days and bad days, and, given the right circumstances, those bad days can lead to a difficult life. Former porn actors, including Jenna Presley, Priya Rai and Kira Noir express how porn has caused difficulties in their lives that they don’t believe would have accompanied other careers. The testimonies of these former members of the industry feel real, vivid and heartbreaking, engulfing viewers in an experience that allows them to feel close to the love and the loss corresponding with porn.

The brilliance of this series lies in the fact that the pornstars are presented to the world as human. While it is expressed that those connected to porn struggle to shake the stigmas attached to that particular form of entertainment, they are often humanized and it is explained, repeatedly, that these individuals, more than anything are human beings. Andrews and the others attached to the film aim to break the mold and deliver a message of acceptance. After Porn Ends 3’s cast and crew clearly appreciate the sentiments expressed by these former actors; Andrews and her team are careful not to force one way of thinking on their viewers. With everything said throughout the film I never felt pressured to think a certain way or to accept a certain set of beliefs, but to create my own understanding and appreciation of the people present in the film. After Porn Ends 3 accurately depicts the nature of the porn industry according to the former actors and keeps viewers in the know of what takes place on a daily basis in that field.

After Porn Ends 3 does a wonderful job of reintroducing former actors to the public, but in their new roles. Their stories are heartfelt and the information that they present to the audience brings to light much of what takes place behind the scenes on a porn set. The individuals who were brave enough to come forward and explain both their failures and successes with the world open the eyes of those watching to what leads to the lives they currently hold. The series has taken huge steps forward between the first installment and here, expanding what is talked about and how outsiders might view the subjects of the film. After Porn Ends 3 is an incredibly interesting ride full of failures, redemption and unforeseen successes that, while on the surface pertains only to porn, underneath contains lessons that all can learn from.

Directed by Brittany Andrews. Starring Christy Canyon, Jenteal, Tera Patrick, Priya Rai, Bonnie Rotten, Jenna Presley, etc.
