Beowulf (2007)

Beowulf is one of my all-time favorite pieces of literature. I find it to be so well written and I believe the story is phenomenal. This film, on the other hand, was complete trash. Firstly, the animation was some of the worst I had ever seen. The way the characters moved and their overall features left a lot to be desired. Secondly, the fact that they changed the story when it came to Grendel’s mother is incredibly annoying. Grendel’s mother is meant to be hideous; using Angelina Jolie (not just her voice, but her figure as well) was a terrible choice. What followed in relation to his mother was completely unacceptable. I was appalled at how Robert Zemeckis and the writers completely destroyed a classic piece of literature. Almost everything they did with this film fell short of my expectations. Literally, the only thing I found interesting about this film was the fact that King Hrothgar (played by Anthony Hopkins) continuously referenced Odin when Odin is the character he plays in the Marvel Comic’s Thor series. I’m hoping that one day someone will write and produce a film based on Beowulf that does the epic poem some justice. Honestly, they can’t do worse than was done with this film. I highly recommend that no one watch this film, especially if you, in any way, enjoy the original story. As if they hadn’t aggravated me enough, Idina Menzel sings during the end credits (for those who don’t know, just the thought of her singing makes me cringe). P.S. The people who wrote reviews for this on IMDB literally have no idea what they are talking about, and I’m pretty sure at least a few of them didn’t actually watch this film. http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0442933/
