Cry Baby (1990)

This is easily one the cheesiest films I’ve ever seen. I feel that everything that took place over the course of the film was done terribly and it appeared to me that they were done awfully on purpose. The plot, the acting, the makeup and everything in between was done so astoundingly opposite to what one might hope for in a film that it was almost impressive. John Waters made every aspect of the film subpar; that was truly an interesting approach and I feel that it was successful. It would be easy for the director and the rest of the crew to ignore minor details and focus on the story or the acting, however, by adhering to their formula of nonsense and oddities they had to pour an immense amount of detail into this film. As much work would have gone into making sure the film was consistently ridiculous as would have gone into a film set on perfecting the plot and the acting. I can honestly say that I did not enjoy this film for a number of reasons. It truly annoys me when it's incredibly apparent that actors are not actually singing in films and, while I cannot comment on whether or not this is making fun of 50’s films (like the rest of this film), I can say that it is so obvious and that was enough to irk me. Moreover, I feel that part of the reason I did not care for this film was because I am not familiar with many 50’s films that would have been represented in this film. Due to the fact that this film was, in many ways, a satire to 50’s films, I struggled to find a connection to films that I have seen and/or care for. Again, I have to commend director, John Waters, for sticking to his guns in making sure that everything was executed in a subpar manner. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099329/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
