Dead Men Walk (1943)

Dead Men Walk is your typical 1940’s horror film; it’s a bit corny and it truly lacks any sort of scare factor. I will say, however, that Fern Emmett’s Kate and George Zucco’s Dr. Elwyn Clayton were incredibly creepy. The acting was most certainly a factor in this film, as it allowed for the two actors to come off as terribly creepy, adding a truly fantastic dimension to this film. The acting of Emmett and Zucco was quite impressive considering the time period. I hate to scorn what took place in Hollywood in the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s because so many groundbreaking things took place in the film industry at this time. Certainly, modern films truly benefit from what took place almost one hundred years ago. With that being said, film acting was less than acceptable in terms of what is expected today (and because of this I was truly impressed with how believable the acting was in this particular film). While the acting was the high point of this film, the story was the low point. While I don’t believe the story was horrible, I do believe that the way in which it was told and how it was paced, truly hindered how the film would have been received. This was far from the worst horror film I’ve seen, but I’d have to say that, overall, I was a bit disappointed in this film.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0035784/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
