Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story (2005)

Dakota Fanning was, to some, a young prodigy in the field of acting. She, especially when she was younger, managed to find herself in lead roles (or strong secondary roles) and while she truly is a talented young actor, she annoys me beyond belief in some of her roles. In every film she’s in, she brings her southern roots and a very proper attitude. In this film, in particular, I thought that her approach to bringing Cale Crane to life failed due to her nearly perfect vernacular. It’s almost as if Fanning made it a point to speak perfectly throughout the film and I thought this was distracting from Cale’s purpose in the film. Kurt Russell (Ben Crane) and Kris Kristofferson (Pop Crane) were perfect choices to play father and son. Prior to watching the film I remember thinking to myself, when reading the cast list, that these two actors look incredibly similar to one another. So, the casting directors in this film did a great job of choosing these two to play opposite one another. With the exception of Fanning, I thought that acting was exceptional; simple, but exceptional. The story is not something that many filmgoers may typically latch onto, but I thought that this particular story about a horse, one of love and perseverance is quite enjoyable. The adversity that the Crane family faces throughout the course of the film was just enough to keep the audience engaged and give them something to root for. This is a fun family film acceptable for all ages and a film that I believe most children (and adults) can appreciate. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0418647/?ref_=nv_sr_1
