Eagle Eye (2008)

Director D.J. Caruso sets the film up early to appear as if there are three separate stories taking place at the same time. It is quickly revealed how intertwined the stories were and what sort of day the two main characters were in for. From the moment we understand how intense Jerry Shaw (Shia Labeouf) and Rachel Holloman’s (Michelle Monaghan) journey would be, the film becomes suspenseful and refuses to give much of anything up to the audience until the end. While Shaw’s story was explained to the audience by the end of the film, it is never truly made clear why it was Holloman that was chosen to accompany him on his journey. Shaw’s story became more and more enjoyable as the film progressed, taking him from the slacking twin brother of a military hero to the hero himself. Holloman’s personality remains rather stagnant as she, in the end, does not do much to prove that she would have been any more useful than any other person. The only explanation of Holloman being chosen as Shaw’s sidekick, by the antagonist, was that her son was nearby, but that was true of so many others (meaning that this reasoning was not good enough). While I thought that the story, as a whole, was enjoyable, but, the lack of explanation for Holloman was frustrating. The lack of a definitive reasoning behind certain choices was a turn off and it makes the writers and the director appear lazy. The suspense was enough to keep audiences engaged, however, the lack of explanation was equally unappealing.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1059786/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
