Elektra (2005)

This film’s story was about equal to Daredevil’s (2003). However, I did think that this film moved along a bit better than Daredevil did (where it seemed that absolutely nothing happened through the first hour of the film). I felt as if the purpose of the film was to show how relentless and tough Jennifer Garner’s Elektra was (after what she had dealt with in the previous film), however, throughout the entire film, her actions, dialogue and the flashbacks that are seen show just the opposite. Her character very often seems weak and that really turned me off to this film. There were many instances in the film where Garner was over-sexualized and this, too, took away from her character. My favorite character in this film was Terence Stamp’s Stick. I thought he portrayed this character confidently and, considering how old the actor would have been during filming (approximately sixty-seven), I thought he moved around quite well. What was unfortunate for Stamp was that prior to seeing this film I had already seen Scott Glenn’s rendition of the character in the 2015, Netflix series, Daredevil. Having already seen Glenn’s version of the character, it was almost impossible to fully accept Stamp as Stick. The fight scenes in this film were still corny, however, not as corny as the scenes in the 2003 Daredevil. In almost every way, with the exception of the story, this film was better than its predecessor--including the CGI, acting and dialogue. Apparently Ben Affleck originally filmed a scene, reprising his role as Matt Murdock, but it was eventually cut. I feel that director Rob Bowman made a great choice in eliminating Affleck from this film. This film, being connected to Mark Steven Johnson’s 2003 Daredevil, was already set for failure. Finding a way to disconnect this film from Johnson's was smart, as it allowed audiences to separate the two films and come to far different conclusions about this film. While this film was not great, the fact that there were so many improvements made, including Garner’s portrayal of Elektra, I thought it was actually decent. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0357277/?ref_=nv_sr_1
