Entourage (2015)

Having never watched the Home Box Office television series by the same name, I was sceptical when I was asked to watch this film for the first time. I was unaware of the characters in the film and their backstories and I was unsure of what to expect from the overall story. From the opening credits the film is full of what one can only assume were references to the show. These references, while, on the surface, were funny, did not land the way they needed to in order to succeed. Many of the jokes worked only with audiences that had been following the characters and stories for years and not for those who were new to said characters and stories. This particular story worked well on its own and even without all of the references to the show, this film could and should have been successful. Considering the number of Hollywood stars and athletes that appeared in this film, it got away with a low budget of only thirty million dollars. Both cast and crew were lucky that the budget was so low, considering the fact that it only raked in around forty-nine million dollars. Considering all that the film had to offer: the relatable characters, the compelling story about dreams and success and the slew of interesting stars that made appearances, the film was, in some ways, a failure. What is so endearing about the characters (and what ultimately made the film so successful) is how down to earth they are. The characters have an unbreakable bond that consists of inside jokes, brotherly love and a commitment to one another that is not often depicted in films. The film was interesting as a stand alone film and--I can only assume--as an ending to the long-running show. After watching the film, writer and director, Doug Ellin, succeeded in making me want to watch the show.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1674771/?ref_=nv_sr_2?ref_=nv_sr_2
