Fever Pitch (2005)

Drew Barrymore often misses the mark due to her acting ability and her inability to connect with audiences. She typically comes off as very vanilla and her characters lack depth as a result of this. Fever Pitch finds Barrymoore in a terribly similar situation that makes many scenes in the film difficult to swallow. Luckily for directors, Bobby and Peter Farrelly, their casting directors, Justine Arteta and Kim Davis-Wagner, chose Jimmy Fallon as the lead role--Ben. Fallon brought his natural quirkiness, humor and lovability to the table and used it to severely outshine Barrymore. It was almost unfair of this crew to force Fallon to work alongside Barrymore as she, in many ways, sucked the life out of the film. The issues with the characters, in general, was the fact that, like Barrymore’s Lindsey, they were very one dimensional. For a good portion of the film, nearly every character lacked the ability to reach audiences. Moreso, the relationship between Lindsey and Ben was unique to the point that it was hard to relate. The one positive about the storyline was its pacing. Even though, over the course of an hour and forty minutes, almost an entire year goes by, nothing was lost. It never felt like the Farrelly’s forced too much into the film or that there was a lack of effective development throughout. The story was unique compared to the typical chick-flick and due to this fact, even with the lack of attractive characters and the difficulties audiences would have had identifying with the bulk of the romance, it was able to hold up and managed to earn, while minimal, some success financially. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0332047/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0
