The Avengers (2012)

Similar to the Terrance Howard to Don Cheadle switch, the switch from Edward Norton to Mark Ruffalo was one of the best moves Marvel could have made. I’ve heard that people believe Ruffalo looks too “dumb” to play a genius; I disagree. I think the way he portrays Banner is a goofy-type genius (maybe a tad socially awkward) which I think is appropriate for him. There are certain aspects of the film that I think maybe should have been done a little differently. What was done with Hawkeye/Clint Barton is something that I found questionable (as did Jeremy Renner). I can see why he was upset with his character’s growth and development in this film. I thought Joss Whedon and the writers did a nice job of keeping things flowing at a good pace while reintroducing each of the heroes in the film. Assembling the Avengers could have potentially been dull and slow moving, but the way in which each character entered the film was written well. I thought Loki was a good choice to be the first of many enemies for the Avengers. He’s cunning, kind of a douche and, yet, he is a fun character to watch. The final battle, at this point, was one of the best fight scenes I’d ever seen on screen. It was filled with nonstop action, yet, it managed not to take away from the story at all; the film still moved forward as the fight was taking place. Needless to say, I loved this film. Plus, the introduction of Thanos was an awesome way to set up films for the next six years or so. http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0848228/
