The Birds (1963)

I thought the story moved slowly, yet, somehow, it kept me interested. For a good portion of the film this was nothing but a love story; there was very little of anything else to convince me otherwise. The cinematography in this film was subpar to say the least. The scene in which the birds attack Mitch Brenner’s (Rod Taylor) house, via chimney, was put together poorly. It can be seen, very clearly, that every single bird in this scene is located in the foreground and is not actually part of what’s happening in the scene. Another example of this is when Tippi Hedren’s Melanie Daniels sits outside of the schoolhouse. The camera angles were so poor that, as the birds gathered on the monkey bars, it was impossible to tell where the monkey bars (and the birds) were located in relation to the character (in front of, behind, next to, etc.). I enjoyed this film very much; but, my favorite part of the entire film was Karl Swenson’s character telling others, again and again, that the world was coming to an end. I’m sure this film was scary at the time it was made, but I think it was funnier than it was scary. http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0056869/
